The impact of buildings

The structure, and especially the floors, are the most resource- and carbon-intensive parts of a building.

Impact at scale

Rising demand makes it increasingly clear that without new, more efficient structural systems, the construction industry cannot meaningfully reduce its environmental impact.

Our solution

Strength through geometry

The Rippmann Floor System ®

Inspired by the Gothic cathedrals of the past, our flagship product, the Rippmann Floor System (RFS), is a prefabricated, unreinforced, concrete floor system, built on more than a decade of research at ETH Zurich.

Conventional concrete floor slabs achieve structural strength through the use of large amounts of material. It is a "brute force" solution.

The RFS follows a different principle. It replaces volume with optimised geometry. Similar to an ancient stone vault, its arched form carries forces through compression, a state that concrete naturally handles well. This eliminates the need for embedded steel reinforcement and allows the system to achieve equal or better performance with a fraction of the material.

As a result, RFS directly addresses some of the most pressing challenges in today's construction industry, particularly its resource-intensive practices and high carbon footprint.

Adjustable performance,
practical by design

The Rippmann Floor System is designed to adapt to a wide range of strucutral requirements and project specifications, without compromising efficiency or architectural freedom.

At the same time, RFS is designed for real-world adoption. The system is easy to install, can be disassembled, reused, and ultimately recycled, making it a fully circular structural solution from the outset.

Sustainability that delivers economic value

Sustainable structure ...

1/3

Concrete

1/10

Steel

By using materials only where they are effective, the RFS requires much less concrete and significantly less steel, compared to traditional floor slabs in reinforced concrete.

25%

Emissions

100%

Circular

With less concrete and less steel, the RFS saves up to 75% of carbon emissions. By keeping materials separate and facilitating reuse and recycling, it is a completely circular solution.

... smarter economics

Higher cost certainty

The RFS requires significantly less concrete and steel than conventional floor systems, reducing the impact of material cost inflation.

System-wide cost savings

The substantially lower self-weight of the RFS reduces costs on the load-bearing structure and foundations.

Faster delivery

The RFS is designed for prefabrication and efficient on-site assembly, delivering your project faster.

Visible sustainability leadership for your brand

Using an innovative and materially efficient structural system makes sustainability tangible at the asset level.

Safer, more predictable execution

By shifting complex formwork and reinforcement work from the construction site into a controlled factory environment, the RFS streamlines on-site execution.
